From The Kitchen Table

To A Full Academic Program

Our Story

The idea for Northwest Heritage Learning Center was born the day our founder, Tammy Jata, pulled her daughter out of public school. It was the spring of her daughter's third-grade year and she could not read or write! Her learning disabilities made it impossible for her to fit the mold, and the schools simply did not have the answers or the resources to help her.

Tammy had taught school for years and she knew that the time had come to quit teaching and homeschool her daughter.  After 20 years of teaching every core subject to multiple grades in one classroom, she knew she could give her child the skills she needed to excel academically, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Tammy left her teaching position and began working with her daughter at home.

It wasn't long until Tammy began Blueberry House Tutoring. When word spread that she was now tutoring, friends began coming to her for academic help with their own children As a teacher, she could not turn them down, and so the company grew until there were too many students for her kitchen table. This was the beginning of a journey that would eventually lead to her opening the doors of Northwest Heritage Learning Center!

The tutoring has evolved from providing one-on-one tutoring at Tammy's humble kitchen table to Blueberry House Tutoring to providing a comprehensive tutoring program for homeschoolers at Northwest Heritage. As the staff and classes continued to expand, Blueberry House Tutoring outgrew two facilities and then moved to our current location. At this point, Tammy knew her model was much bigger than in-home tutoring, and she founded the Northwest Heritage Learning Center.

Although the size of the program has grown, the philosophy of small classes, a love for the students, and a passion for providing a specially-individualized education to every student is still strong at Northwest Heritage Learning Center.
